At First United we believe that compassionate outreach is a key part of our mission in the world.  To this end, we work to raise funds for The United Church of Canada Mission and Service (M&S) Fund and we also actively support both local and international outreach projects.

RUMMAGE SALE & GARAGE SALE

Every Wednesday from 11:30 p.m – 4:30 p.m. at the First United Church. We now have sales the last Saturday of each month excluding December and the summer months.

Clothing and small household items are available free of charge for people in need, after a fire or disaster and for people living in shelters and at nominal fee for all others. Located through the ground level double doors on the church’s west side, we have a large selection to choose from.

Volunteers and donations are always welcome.
Used clothing and items in good repair only please and we do not handle furniture or large household appliances.

LOOSE CHANGE SUPPERS

After over a decade of providing monthly Loose Change Suppers, our Loose Change Supper Group has decided to let this project go in favour of pursuing other volunteer opportunities in the community.

On behalf of the group, we would like to sincerely thank the congregation for your attendance at our suppers, enabling us to provide meals to those in need at little or no cost. Your support of this project has been greatly appreciated.

Janet Keene, Loose Change Supper Group

CHRISTMAS IN JULY

In the Christmas tradition, celebrating the joy of giving and remembering those in need is brought to life in the middle of July.

OUTREACH FUNDRAISING SUPPER

Each year the Outreach Committee organizes a fundraising supper and silent auction to provide support for a specific project or organization. Previous suppers have supported the Three Sisters Orphanage in Nepal and provided funds for sponsorship of a Refugee family. Watch the Events Page for dates and details of this year’s event.

CHRISTMAS HAMPERS

During Advent our congregation donates gift cards or money to help with Christmas hampers for families in need in our community and surrounding area.

WORSHIP SERVICES FOR SENIORS

Worship Services are conducted at Swift Current Care Centres and Seniors Residences by our minister and lay worship leaders. We welcome anyone who would like to come and offer your singing voice in support of this ministry.  First United leads these services in a rotation that is coordinated by the Swift Current & Area Ministerial Association.

GIVING

There are many ways to give that can support our church and it’s mission to actively pursue compassionate outreach. In addition to the above mentioned, we respond to outside appeals such as Southwest Crisis Services in Swift Current, Salvation Army in Swift Current, Canadian Mental Health Association in Swift Current, and support community interests such as recycling in Swift Current and Grandmothers and Others for Change.

For more information on how to give, visit our GIVING page.
